[19:59] <DM_ToA> After fighting psychic monkies, zombies and overwheling heat – the group has now found themselves in the ruins of Camp Righteous without a guide. As the sunlight is smothered by the canopy…the sounds of the jungle grow quiet…as if something more dangerous approaches the rotted tents. Tonight's chapter of Tomb of Annihilation * and begins

[20:06] <Terres> “Lets find a spot we can rest in, some place easily defended”

[20:16] * Stolanimus takes watch til his form runs out then sleeps.

[20:17] * Ash takes one of the officer tents.
[20:17] * Miri will take an officer's tent as well
[20:17] * Terres takes his watch then attempts to sleep (his way into lvl 5)

[20:18] * Miri will take the last watch.
[20:18] <Ash> (Middle watch)
[20:20] * Kayalia stakes out a good tent and doesn't take watch unless asked to.

[20:22] * Miri moves from her position towards the boats, drawing her sword but not lighting it yet.
[20:23] <DM_ToA> From the boats, you hear something grinding and bubbling. (Roll Stealth, please)

[20:23] <TolBot> Miri's 1d20(7)]: 7
[20:24] <DM_ToA> As you draw close to the boats, some sand gives away under your feet, making you mis-step. As a couple of coins clank…
[20:24] <DM_ToA> …something darts away, retreating into the shadows.
[20:25] * Miri whispers 'marshmallow' and lights her sword. “coins….” looks from the coins and looks around, looking for anything else even afte seeing the thing dart away.
[20:26] * Dylan reads a bit and goes to sleep
[20:26] <DM_ToA> The golden flame leaps from the base of the blade to the tip. In the darkness beyond the light, you see only the black forms of the boats receding into the water.
[20:28] * Miri bends down to pick up a couple of the coins and look at them. “you are more honorable than i thought.” She calls out where she saw the movement, acting on a hunch.
[20:28] <DM_ToA> (two copper coins – honorable? yes. Cheap? Double yes)
[20:29] <DM_ToA> (The rest of the night passes without incident. Welcome to Level 5)
[20:30] <Ash> (DING)
[20:30] * Miri douses the light of her sword as the sun rises, and looks around on the bank just to see if there are any more coins before heading back to the others.
[20:31] <DM_ToA> (You find a couple more copper, maybe a silver – stuff dropped in a panic as you can tell)
[20:32] * Miri picks up what she finds then heads back.
[20:32] <DM_ToA> In the morning light, you see four boats with holes bored crudely in the bottom – they not even good firewood for camp fires now.
[20:32] * Terres stretches and shakes the sleep foms his eyes
[20:33] <Terres> (are those fresh holes?)
[20:33] <DM_ToA> Some look freshly bored – there's still some wood floating above them. Others look old. This was not a one night event.
[20:34] <Kayalia> (but… why)
[20:35] <Terres> “I doubt the undead would bother trying to make the boats unusable , someone else did that”
[20:35] <Miri> “someone or something was also around here last night.”
[20:36] <DM_ToA> As you all walk out the tents, motion tugs at the corner of your vision…
[20:36] <Ash> “Oh great, so undead and people destroying our resources. This place sucks.”
[20:36] * Miri pulls her sword again and moves in the direction of the movement.
[20:37] <DM_ToA> (Do you wish to examine the smoking ruins of the shrine?)
[20:37] * Terres tries to see what was moving around
[20:37] <DM_ToA> A snake – large and brightly green and black – slithers out from one of the command tents.
[20:38] <Ash> “Hmm”
[20:38] <Miri> “oh a snake, lovely”
[20:38] * Terres looks around for Stolanimus
[20:38] * Stolanimus nods at Terres.
[20:39] <Terres> “Just checking”
[20:39] <Miri> “well, shall we head for terres' deep hole?”
[20:39] <Ash> “Do you want me to ask it about whomever damaged the boats?”
[20:40] <Stolanimus> “Possibly“
[20:40] <Terres> “Could help”
[20:40] * Ash casts 'Speak with Animals' and starts talking to the snake.
[20:40] * Kayalia yawns as she approaches the group, but manages to snap out of any sleepy hazy when seeing a snake slither across the ground.
[20:40] <Ash> “Excuse me, did you see what damaged those boats?”
[20:40] * Ash points at the boats.
[20:41] <DM_ToA> The snake stops, looks behind it.
[20:41] <DM_ToA> “Can't eat. Don't care.”
[20:42] <Ash> “What about the people who were here, did you see what happened to them?”
[20:43] <DM_ToA> “Got eaten. Eaten by bad tastes. Less bad tastes came back.”
[20:44] <Ash> “I see. Where did the bad tastes go?”
[20:47] <Terres> “time to explore the cave”
[20:47] <DM_ToA> “Back to the world.” The snake points its snout towards the jungle.
[20:48] <Ash> “Anybody else have questions for the snake?” (After relaying its answers)
[20:48] <Miri> “not me.”
[20:48] <Terres> “Just tell it that all of us here taste bad!”
[20:49] * Kayalia hums a few bars and prods at some rocks on the ground with one toe while listening to Ash hiss and otherwise speak parceltongue to a snake.
[20:49] <Ash> “Thank you. May you catch many good tastes today.”
[20:49] <DM_ToA> “May Sseth take you in his coils.”
[20:49] <DM_ToA> The snake continues on the way to the jungle.
[20:52] * Ash stands back up.
[20:53] * Terres casts Mage armor on himself and gets ready to explore the cave
[20:53] <Ash> “Ok, shall we?”
[20:53] * Miri lights her sword and nods.
[20:54] <DM_ToA> The mouth of the cave structure is covered in dirt, mud and wind tossed leaves.

[20:54] <Stolanimus> “What are we hoping to find in here?”
[20:54] <DM_ToA> (said the person with the light)
[20:55] * Stolanimus produces a flame in his hand and walks forward.
[20:55] * Dylan watches and rubs his chin
[20:55] <Kayalia> “So… this is definitely the right place? Where we can find a way to end the world-effecting curse on resurrection?”

[20:56] <Ash> “No, this was a waypoint to finding the world-ending curse on resurrection.”

[21:05] * Terres takes a closer look (being a dwarf and stone connoisseur)

[21:06] * Ash pauses and looks at where Stolanimus is pointing.
[21:07] <Miri> “lets not start this thing with a bang. Can someone disable it? it is a trap aint it?”
[21:07] <DM_ToA> You see a single stone tile – grossly out of place for your dwarven sensibilities – balanced as a counterweight for something. This is cunning – for a human or a froo-froo elf.
[21:07] <Terres> “yeah i wouldnt step on that”
[21:08] * Ash steps forward to look at the trap.
[21:08] <Stolanimus> “I know little of stonework, but thought that was odd.”
[21:09] <DM_ToA> Ash – you can tell it's a trigger trap with pressure being put on the stone releasing some mechanism.
[21:10] <Ash> “Well I can try to disable it, though I'm not sure how good I will be at it.”
[21:12] <Dylan> “How do you think the possible trap is triggered?”
[21:12] <Ash> “If that's what people prefer, I suggest stepping far back, in case this goes off.”

[21:12] <Miri> “I say we just don't step on it.”

[21:31] * Terres waits for a splash then looks bahind to see where Ashe dissapeard
[21:31] * Dylan fishes out a rope and ties one end to himself and then throws down the other end

[21:31] <DM_ToA> The rope drops down in front of you, Ash It mocks you and you know it.
[21:32] * Ash scowls at the rope and ties it around his waist.

[21:40] * Kayalia shrugs and begins to tie it around her waist.
